Terms of service

These terms govern your use of gurucarrentals.com and any rental arranged through it. The site is operated by Solutions Guru LLC, doing business as Guru Car Rentals, of Dearborn, Michigan ("we", "us").

Bookings are requests, not confirmations

Submitting the booking form creates a request. A rental exists only once we confirm it in writing and issue a booking number. We may decline any request at our discretion, including where the vehicle becomes unavailable, documents cannot be verified, or the renter does not meet our eligibility requirements.

Eligibility

Renters must be at least 21 years old, hold a valid unexpired driver's license, and carry automobile insurance that covers them driving the rented vehicle for the entire rental period. Protection plans are optional damage waivers and do not replace this requirement. Drivers aged 21 to 24 pay a young driver fee.

Pricing and payment

Prices quoted on the site are estimates based on the dates and options you select and are confirmed at booking. Payments by card are processed by Square; we do not receive or store your card details. Card payments include a 5% card convenience fee, shown separately before you pay. Cash payments are due in full at pickup.

Site content

Vehicle images, specifications and availability are provided in good faith and may change. We correct errors as soon as we find them and will not hold you to a price that is obviously wrong.

Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by Michigan law, our liability arising from your use of the site is limited to the amount you have paid us for the rental in question.

The full rental agreement is signed at pickup. Its key terms are summarised here so nothing is a surprise.

Permitted use

The vehicle may be driven only by drivers named on the agreement. It may not be used for racing or off-road driving, to tow beyond the manufacturer's rating, to carry passengers for hire, to transport hazardous materials, or by anyone under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Smoking and vaping in the vehicle carry a cleaning fee.

Condition and damage

We photograph the vehicle with you at pickup and at return. You are responsible for damage, loss and theft occurring during the rental, subject to any protection plan you have purchased. Report any collision or theft to us and to the police immediately.

Mileage and fuel

Each rental includes 200 miles per day, pooled across the rental period. Additional miles are billed at 35¢ each. Return the vehicle at the fuel or charge level at which you received it, or we will restore it and bill the cost plus a service fee.

Security deposit

A refundable deposit of $250 is taken at pickup and released after the vehicle is returned and inspected. We may apply it toward unpaid charges, fuel, damage, tolls, citations or late return fees.

Late return and repossession

A one-hour grace period applies. Beyond that, late returns are billed hourly up to a full additional day. We may repossess the vehicle without notice if it is not returned as agreed or is used in breach of this agreement.

Tolls and citations

You are responsible for tolls, parking tickets and traffic citations incurred during your rental, plus an administrative fee for each one we have to process.

Protection plans

Our protection plans are contractual damage waivers offered by Guru Car Rentals. They are not insurance policies, they are not sold by a licensed insurance producer, and they do not provide liability coverage for injury or damage you cause to other people or their property. Your own auto liability insurance remains your responsibility.

Cancellation and refunds

• Cancel more than 48 hours before pickup: full refund of anything paid.
• Cancel within 48 hours of pickup: one day's rate is retained, the rest refunded.
• No-show: the first rental day is charged in full.
• Early return: unused full days are refunded at the daily rate, less any discount that applied to the longer booking.
• If we cancel — vehicle damage, mechanical failure, or anything else on our side — you receive a full refund and we will try to put you in a comparable vehicle first.

Refunds are returned by the method used to pay, usually within five business days. Severe weather and genuine emergencies are handled case by case; call us.

VIN Check membership terms

What you get

VIN Check decodes a vehicle identification number and shows the vehicle's build details, safety recalls for its model year, owner complaints, federal investigations and crash-test ratings, using public data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). It is not a vehicle history report: it does not show title brands, accidents, odometer readings, liens or previous owners. We show the data as NHTSA provides it and cannot guarantee it is complete or current. Always check the specific vehicle at nhtsa.gov/recalls and have it inspected before you buy.

Monthly membership

• Signing up costs a one-time $49.00 signup fee, plus the 5% card convenience fee ($51.45 total). The signup fee is non-refundable, including if you cancel during the first 3 days.
• The membership then renews at $3.99 a month, plus the 5% card convenience fee ($4.19 total). The first monthly charge happens 72 hours after you sign up and then on the same day each month, to the card you joined with.
• Cancel within 72 hours of signing up and you will never be charged the monthly fee. You can cancel anytime at gurucarrentals.com/vin while signed in, or by calling or texting us.
• If you cancel later, you keep access until the end of the month you've already paid for, and you are not charged again. Monthly fees are not prorated or refunded.
• If a monthly charge is declined, we retry it once a day. Your access pauses if it is still unpaid after 3 days, and the membership ends after 3 declined attempts.

Lifetime access

Lifetime access is a single card payment (including Apple Pay or Google Pay) of $199.00 plus the 5% card convenience fee ($208.95 total), with no monthly charges. Our regular price for lifetime access is $799. "Lifetime" means for as long as Guru Car Rentals offers VIN Check. If we ever stop offering it within 12 months of your purchase, we'll refund a share of what you paid in proportion to the months remaining in that first year.

Lifetime access can also be paid by Zelle or cash for $199.00 with no card fee. Your account is reserved when you choose Zelle or cash, and access starts once we confirm we've received the payment. If we don't receive it, the reservation is canceled.

VIP passes

We sometimes give complimentary VIN Check access — a short VIP pass or complimentary lifetime access — by invitation. A VIP pass ends automatically at the time shown on your account, and nothing is charged. VIP members may then join the monthly plan at $3.99 a month plus the 5% card convenience fee ($4.19), charged on the day they join and monthly after that; the $49.00 signup fee is optional for VIP members. Complimentary access can be withdrawn at any time.

Your account

Your membership is for your own use. Don't share your login or resell reports. We may close an account that's being shared or used to scrape data, and refund any unused monthly period. Payments are processed by Square; we never see or store your full card number. For monthly members, Square securely keeps your card on file so we can charge the monthly fee.

Privacy policy

What we collect

When you request a booking we collect your name, date of birth, contact details, mailing address, driver's licence number, issuing state and expiry, and any insurance document you choose to upload. We collect this to verify eligibility, prepare your rental agreement, produce your receipt, and keep the records a vehicle rental business is required to keep.

What we don't collect

We never see or store your card number — card payments are handled entirely by Square. We do collect a photo or scan of your driver's licence as part of your booking record; this is kept on file for the duration legally required for vehicle rental records and is accessible only to the business owner.

How it's stored and shared

Booking submissions are stored in our website host's form system and our business email, both restricted to the owner's account. We share your information only where necessary: with Square to take payment, with insurers or law enforcement in the event of an incident, and where the law requires it. We do not sell your information or use it for advertising.

How long we keep it

Rental records are kept as long as needed for tax, accounting and liability purposes, then deleted. You may ask us to delete information we are not required to retain by emailing us.

Cookies and analytics

The site uses only what it needs to function, plus basic traffic analytics if enabled. It does not run advertising trackers.
